TEXT & TRANSLATIONS

Trilo

Swedish folksong

arr. Christy Elsner

Translation:

Trilo, here he is close by

The Way Knows the Way

Lyndsey Scott

You don't have to know the way

The way knows the way

You don't have to plan the way,

Trust the way, feel your way

The way knows, the way knows the way

Fire (from "Elements"

Katerina Gimon

fire

heat, light

strength, fuel, drive

burning, melting, evaporating, and transforming

fire

Sure on this Shining Night

Samuel Barber

arr. Jacob Narverud

Sure on this shining night

Of starmade shadows round,

Kindness must watch for me

This side the ground.

The late year lies down the north.

All is healed, all is health.

High summer holds the earth.

Hearts all whole.

Sure on this shining night

I weep for wonder

Wandering far alone

Of shadows on the stars.

Sure on this Shining Night

Stardust

Composed by B.E. Boykin

Text by Brittny Ray Crowell

If we are only stardust

Let your names reach to the sky above us

Like petals wafting on a breeze

We lift you up beyond our reach

“Kum Buba Yali, Kum Buba Tambe”

Amen, Amen

”Kum Buba Yali, Kum Buba Tambe”

We say your names

If we are only stardust

May your blood never be in vain

Like petals wafting on a breeze

We lift you up beyond our reach

“Kum Buba Yali, Kum Buba Tambe”

Amen, Amen

“Kum Buba Yali, Kum Buba Tambe”

We say your names

Each day we grieve another face

Maybe all this stardust

Will carry us home one day

To a home where we can run

A home where we can pray

A home where we can breathe,

To sleep and dream without fear—

Is justice this far away?

We cry your names

For the strength to keep on fighting

With the hope that you are flying

“Kum Buba Yali, Kum Buba Tambe”

Uraren besotik

Composed by Eva Ugalde

Text by Josune Lopez

Translation of Basque text:

Through the arm of water (through the water), through the hand of air (through the air, holding the hand of air), we arrived at the city filled with solitude (the solitude-filled city, the solitary city).

I am with you and I cannot rejoice/enjoy.

The now (the present) is always short, the past, the joy/enjoyment/pleasure, and the future is there awaiting.

Now I want to rejoice/enjoy in the now (in the present).

Lineage

Composed by Andrea Ramsey

Text by Margaret Walker

My grandmothers were strong.

They followed plows and bent to toil.

They moved through fields sowing seed.

They touched earth and grain grew.

They were full of sturdiness and singing.

My grandmothers were strong.

My grandmothers are full of memories

Smelling of soap and onions and wet clay

With veins rolling roughly over quick hands

They have many clean words to say.

My grandmothers were strong.

Why am I not as they?

Fire and Ice

Composed by Emily Crocker

Text by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From whit I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

Bit if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

to know that for destruction ice

Is also great.

And would suffice.

Nightingale

Composed by Glenda Franklin

Nightingale, as you spin your melody into the lonely darkness of night;

While you sing, sharing love within your heart, the music sours as notes take flight.

Soon your haunting melody will be returned in complete harmony.

Nightingale, every note with such emotion, it could heal a broken heart.

As you sing, she is waiting to discover all the you your notes will bring.

Soon your haunting melody will be returned in complete harmony.

Nightingale, sing your melody,

nightingale, sing your harmony.

Sing your song nightingale.

Nightingale, every liquid note of magic echoes through the lonely night.

From boughs, hidden from the world she waits upon the music that invites;

Soon your haunting melody will be returned in complete harmony.

I love the flowers

I love the flowers, I love the daffodils

I love the mountains, I love the rolling hills

I love the fireside when the lights are low

Singing a boom-de-ada, boom-de-ada, boom-de-ada boom

Singing a boom-de-ada, boom-de-ada, boom-de-ada boom

Autumn Fires

Composed by Mary Donnelly & George L.O. Strid

Text by Robert Louis Stevenson

In the other gardens

And all up the vale,

From the autumn bonfires

See the smoke trail!

1Woods aflame with color

Yellow, red, and brown

Leaves of gold and crimson

Carpet all the ground.

Sing a song of seasons!

Something bright in all!

Flowers in the summer,

Fires in the fall!

Frosty morning,

And chilly is the day

Cold the night and silent,

Winter’s on the way.

Pleasant summer’s over

And all the summer flowers,

How the red fire blazes,

How the grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!

Something bright in all!

Flowers in the summer,

Fires in the fall!

Flowers in the summer,

Fires in the fall!

Fireflies

Composed by Adam Young

arr. Mark Bremer

You would not believe your eyes

If ten million fireflies

Lit up the world as I fell asleep

'Cause they fill the open air

And leave teardrops everywhere

You'd think me rude but I would just stand and stare

I'd like to make myself believe that planet Earth turns slowly

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

'Cause everything is never as it seems

'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs

From ten thousand lightning bugs

As they tried to teach me how to dance

A foxtrot above my head

A sock hop beneath my bed

A disco ball is just hanging by a thread (thread, thread)

I'd like to make myself believe that planet Earth turns slowly

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

'Cause everything is never as it seems (when I fall asleep)

Leave my door open just a crack

Please take me away from here

'Cause I feel like such an insomniac

Please take me away from here

Why do I tire of counting sheep?

Please take me away from here

When I'm far too tired to fall asleep

To ten million fireflies

I'm weird 'cause I hate goodbyes

I got misty eyes as they said farewell (they said farewell)

But I'll know where several are

If my dreams get real bizarre

'Cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar (jar, jar, jar)

I'd like to make myself believe that planet Earth turns slowly

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

'Cause everything is never as it seems (when I fall asleep)

I'd like to make myself believe that planet Earth turns slowly

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

'Cause everything is never as it seems (when I fall asleep)

Glowing

arr. Roger Emerson

Bring on the storm

Let it rain, let it snow

Got a little bit of love

Oh, to keep us, to keep us dry

I'll keep you warm

Let the winter winds blow

Got a little bit of love

Oh, to keep us alive

Don't lose your faith

We're not far from the shore

Got a little bit of love

Oh, to light up our way back home

So bring on the waves

Let them crash, let them roar

Got a little bit of love

Oh, you won't be alone

Cups (When I'm Gone)

A.P. Carter, Luisa Gerstein, Heloise Tunstall-Behrens

I got my ticket for the long way 'round

Two bottle o' whiskey for the way

And I sure would like some sweet company

And I'm leavin' tomorrow, what do you say?

When I'm gone

When I'm gone

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my hair

You're gonna miss me everywhere, oh

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

When I'm gone

When I'm gone

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my walk

You're gonna miss me by my talk, oh

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

I got my ticket for the long way 'round

The one with the prettiest of views

It's got mountains, it's got rivers

It's got sights to give you shivers

But it sure would be prettier with you

When I'm gone

When I'm gone

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my walk

You're gonna miss me by my talk, oh

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

When I'm gone

When I'm gone

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my hair

You're gonna miss me everywhere

Oh, you're sure gonna miss me when I'm gone

When I'm gone

When I'm gone

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my walk

You're gonna miss me by my talk, oh

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

One spirit, one voice

The sound of one who makes a choice

The sound of me singing with you

Helping each other to make it through

This is the sound of voices two

This is the sound of voices three

Singing together in harmony

Surrendering to the mystery

This is the sound of voices three

This is the sound of voices three

This is the sound of all of us

Singing with love and the will to trust

Leave the rest behind, it will turn to dust

This is the sound of all of us

One people, one voice

A song for every one of us

This is the sound of one voice

This is the sound of one voice
